You want a truly special and perfect track weapon? Well, here is the holy grail. The Pierobon X60R built by Brian at Boulder Motorsports has it all and more. AHRMA was at Pitt Race this weekend and Boulder was in attendance. I sat down with Brian, owner of Boulder Motorsports, to talk about his X60R builds and to snap some photos. This article will be photos and information of this machine, look for a second article on the machine that is piloted by Stefano Mesa.
If you are not aware of who or what Pierobon is; they are an Italian company known for designing and manufacturing motorcycle frames and components. Founded in 1952 by Riccardo Pierobon, the company has a long history of collaborating with top racing teams and engineers to create lightweight, durable frames tailored for track performance. Pierobon is especially known for producing frames for Ducati race bikes, as well as developing custom motorcycle parts and limited-edition models like this X60R.
Powerplant – Air cooled Beast
The X60R is powered by a Ducati 2 Valve air cooled engine, typically from a Hypermotard 1100. This machine is no different however this is not your typical Hypermotard engine. The stroke is unchanged however the crank got the special lightweight treatment to allow the motor to pick up the revs at a faster rate. This engine has the bore punched from 98mm to 102mm taking the displacement 1170cc. Displacement is nothing without proper air flow and Brian has the heads worked with oversized titanium valves and NCR camshafts. STM Slipper Clutch helps the rider calmly enter a corner and keep this lightweight beast under control. There is a slightly larger oil cooler from what the standard OEM Ducati engine would use. (I’m taking a guess it’s from a superbike model 4 valve engine). The exhaust is not the standard exhaust that Pierobon supplies with the X60R kit; this one is custom and features a dual muffler design.
X60R Chassis – Ohlins, Brembo, Aluminum Frame…
The Pierobon X60R is based around an ultra-light aluminum frame that can come in bare aluminum, red, or black. This one Brian had powder coated black along with many other bits and it is pure class. Between the BST carbon fiber wheels, titanium all over and nice aluminum frame components; the X60R is not much more than 300lbs. That staggering lightweight combined with a powerplant that makes monster torque and enough horsepower to pull to redline with ease and pass 600 supersports. Ohlins Forks and shock are parr for the course when you’re building a stunning machine like this one and the world superbike spec FGR forks are really the perfect touch.
The bike features a full Magnetti Marelli system which means you got the amazing race dash along with all the data acquisition you could want and the rider aids to keep you safe. Unlike nearly all other Ducati 2v machines out there, this one feature ride-by-wire throttle.
I would like to thank Brian at Boulder Motorsports for talking to me and allowing photos and video to be taken of his machines. Check out more from Boulder Motorsports HERE. More photos for your viewing pleasure below.
